In the state of Washington, the Associated Press reports that Baja Motorsports had to recall 308,000 mini bikes and go-carts. The recall was issued after the company received notices that a child was seriously burned.
According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the gas caps on the Chinese-made vehicles can leak or detach, which poses a serious fire hazard. Additionally, the throttles can get stuck and cause the mini bikes and go-carts to unexpectedly accelerate and cause child injuries.
At this time, the company has received nine reports of leaking and detached gas caps. In one case, a child suffered a major burn injury. The company has also received 25 reports about the throttles where parents have said their children sustained injuries to the face and body.
The toys have been sold online and by various retailers nationwide.
