On October 30th two young adults were struck and killed by a drunk driver in Tampa, Florida. The driver of the Cadillac, Matthew Moye, 34, now faces two counts of vehicular homicide and two counts of DUI manslaughter. Today a civil suit was also filed against him for the wrongful death of Kate Kohlier, 24, who, along with Douglas Kozar, 23, was on her way home from work that night. The lawsuit was filed in the Hillsborough County Circuit Court.
Kohlier's family has enlisted the aid of attorney Tom Carey for their suit against Moye. In a public statement, Carey stated that "a lawsuit of this type has meaning that goes beyond the individual case" and hoped to set an example for others in the future. The attorney has personally felt the pain associated with drunk driving, his wife was killed by a drunk driver nearly thirty years ago.
