According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a blown-out tire is to blame for the auto accident that killed three children last week.
Tim Frith, spokesman for the department, said that the SUV was driving down the southbound lanes of the Florida turnpike when a tire blew out, causing the vehicle to slam into a retaining wall. Another SUV was also involved in the accident when the driver lost control.
Three children - Sean Hansen, 1; Steve Hansen, 11; and an unnamed 12-year-old boy - were all pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the SUV was transported to a hospital in Fort Pierce in critical condition. There were two other children in the vehicle at that time, both of whom were brought to West Palm Beach Hospital in stable condition.
