Police have released the name of the man killed in a boat accident last week - James Everard.
The 34-year-old resident of Whitmore Lake was out with his 2-year-old daughter on Whitmore Lake when they were both ejected from their 12-foot aluminum boat. Even though there were life vests on the boat, Everard was not wearing a life vest when his body was discovered.
At this time his daughter is being treated at University of Michigan's C.S. Mott Children's Hospital. According to Deputy Chief Jason Pless, she is expected to survive the accident. Since there are no witnesses to the accident, police are still investigating the cause of the accident.
A call was dispatched to the Northfield Township police department for two people who were in the water. Two people in a paddleboat are responsible for pulling the girl out of the water before emergency personnel arrived.
