According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the victim, 57-year-old John Lauer, was riding his Yamaha motorcycle on Oakstead Boulevard when a Toyota car swerved into Lauer's lane and struck him. When Lauer saw what was happening, he quickly tried to lay down his bicycle to avoid the crash. When the car failed to return to its lane, it hit Lauer and the bike, and then stopped directly on top of the victim.
