Four teenagers were killed last week when their SUV crashed into a cinder block wall in Sarasota.
According to Lt. Chris Miller of the Florida Highway Patrol, "In talking to the on-scene supervisor, it seems that speed did play a part in this accident." The 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer was being driven by Sean Leonard, 19, when the young man lost control of the vehicle. Riding in the car with him were Andrew E. Monroe, 19, Jessica Leonard, 14, and Kelly E. Janis, 15.
The group of teens was driving on Wilkinson Road around 5:25 when the crash happened. It appears that the Trailblazer traveled across the center line, going into the westbound traffic toward Marcott Circle. At this time investigators are still researching the reason why the teens were on the road so early in the morning. However, they do know that alcohol was not a contributing factor to this crash.
