Tragedy struck a wife in Clearwater when she learned about the death of her husband due to a motorcycle accident.
Gary Kitchen, 55, was riding his Harley-Davidson home from a dental appointment when he somehow lost control of his bike. His wife, Cathy, was devastated by the news. She learned that Gary had crashed into the back of a semitrailer truck on Sunset Point Road near the intersection of Stetson Drive.
Local police reported that the truck was going westbound on Sunset Point Road and was attempting to make a right turn into the back of the Publix plaza located at 1921 N Belcher Road. Witnesses to the accident say that Gary appeared to speed up in an attempt to pass the truck as it turned. However, as he went into the median lane he lost control and was ejected from his motorcycle. He was later pronounced dead at the scene.
The couple had been married for almost 35 years. Gary, a "homebody," was unable to work due to a medical condition.
