Tragedy struck in southern Florida when an elderly woman lost part of her leg in an explosion.
According to the authorities, the 79-year-old woman was using a pressure cooker at home when it fell onto the floor and exploded. One of the shards hit with enough force to sever her leg above her ankle. A quick-thinking witness secured her ankle above the cut with the belt, as a tourniquet, until the paramedics arrived. He was later informed that she could easily have died from blood loss had he not stepped in.
The woman is now being treated at Jackson Memorial Hospital . She is expected to survive and make a full recover, minus her foot.
