Five men were arrested for staging a car accident and making false insurance claims. The men were aged between 53 years old and 23 years old. The group allegedly met at a house to plan their insurance fraud and then submitted $83,000 in insurance claims to four different insurance providers. The claims were for medical treatment at a rehab center and a medical services center.
According to officials, police expect to make more arrests in this insurance fraud scheme. If convicted of their crimes, the group of five men faces up to 35 years in prison each. The men have been charged with staging an accident, grand theft, and insurance fraud.
The state in which the men were arrested has a toll-free hotline for suspected insurance fraud tips. If you have any information regarding an insurance fraud, you can call the hotline and possibly receive an award of up to $25,000 if the information you provide leads to an arrest and conviction. To date about 40 people in the state have been awarded nearly $250,000 for their tips. People who provide tips can remain anonymous if they so choose.
