Boating can be a great and enjoyable recreational activity, but there are times that it is dangerous or almost deadly. Near Coconut Grove in Florida, two boaters were recently on the water enjoying the summer weather when they crashed. The boat who caused the collision rushed off quickly, creating sort of marine hit-and-run accident. According to witnesses, a speed boat slammed wright into a 13-foot Boston whaler ship. The man and woman on board the whaler were significantly injured in the collision. They tumbled overboard, and it took rescue teams nearly an hour to find and rescue the couple from the dark and chilly waters.
An observer on a nearby boat helped the helicopter and boat teams to get the couple to the hospital. According to The Miami Herald, the man on the whaler was an experienced boater. His girlfriend used her cell phone to call 911 after the accident, while her boyfriend moaned and thrashed in pain. She was unaware of their location in the ocean at the time. The rescue crews arrived to find the man unconscious and in critical condition. The woman had serious head injuries. The victims are still at a hospital in the Miami area recovering from the collision.
